Timberboard Ash A/B - Joined staves: wat is dat?

Ash wood is characterised by a very distinct, coarse-grained pattern. The colour is close to a mother-of-pearl look that turns from white/pinkish to yellow when exposed to daylight. When treated properly, ash wood will last for years. Ash wood is not to be confused with maple wood which is soft in colour and has minimal markings.

It is advisable to sand the panel well before finishing it with a stain, varnish or oil. This will ensure that you finish the original wood colour. Keep in mind that solid ash wood works. This makes it less suitable for use as doors, but all the better for furniture or displays.

European Ash is a type of wood that is relatively pliable and resilient. In addition, ash is very strong and is therefore a popular type of wood when making frames and furniture. Examples include (wall) panelling and table tops. Ash can be stained well and is very suitable as a substrate for varnish.

Visibility quality of solid panels

The solid panels in our range are of high quality. This can be deduced from the visibility quality. The visible quality is indicated by letters, often a combination of two letters with a separator in between. This can be found in the product name or the product properties. The first letter stands for the top of the panel, the second for the bottom or back. A/B thus describes the top and bottom appearance of the panel. A is the best visibility quality. Continuous slats

This panel is constructed from Continuous slats. in this technique, several staves of solid wood are placed side by side and glued together. The slats run in the same direction and along the full length of the panel.

The staves are carefully selected to ensure a good match in colour and grain pattern. They are then glued together with strong wood glue to form a solid panel. Often, the staves are also pressed together under high pressure to ensure the panel is solid and stable.

In Timberboard, a wood grain can be seen. The pattern of the wood grain always runs lengthwise. When sawing the panel, we keep in mind that the length dimension is also the length direction of the wood grain. So pay close attention when entering the dimensions so that the grain of the wood all runs in the right direction!

Available thicknesses of solid ash Timberboard

Solid Timberboards can be ordered in various thicknesses. You can easily indicate your desired thickness during the ordering process. This way, you can be sure that the panel material meets your requirements: both the size and thickness of the material. The following thicknesses are available: 40 mm.

Machining of solid ash Timberboard

European ash can be well sawn, milled or machined. This type of wood is easier to work than beech, for example. The wood can be sanded well and is a suitable substrate for a coloured stain or varnish. Because of its grain, the use of sharp tools is recommended. Ash panels are easy to assemble using nails and screws. Pre-drilling is recommended, however, as it is a hard wood species, it is not necessary.

Ash can work in humid conditions, as wood absorbs moisture faster than it gives it up. The material can also discolour when exposed to too much daylight. Therefore, make sure you sand this board material and apply a good varnish, stain or oil before use. Is your stain or varnish available in a UV-resistant variant? Go for this so that the wood discolours minimally after finishing. 

Processing instructions

This panel is interior glued, which means that the furniture can only be used for indoor applications. Solid panels work in temperature differences and in humid conditions. It is important to always treat the solid panel properly right away with a lacquer, stain or oil to prevent warping.

Specific applications of Solid Ash Timberboard

Ash is ideally suited for applications such as table tops, wall shelves and beams. We do not recommend using the material outdoors, due to the effect of the material and because the interior is glued. When solid wood is exposed to temperature differences or used in humid areas, discolouration or deformation of the panel is likely to occur.
